Engine oil filter types

There are several options of oil filters available for the Honda S2000.
How ever, the Honda Part #15400-PCX-004 is the only oil filter you should be using!
Below is a description of why this specific filter is the only recommended filter for the Honda S2000.

Honda #15400-PCX-004

Originally made in Japan by Toyo Roki Mfg. but now made in the U.S. by Filtech.
This is the current Honda OEM filter specified worldwide for use in the S2000. It superseded the Honda #15400-P0H-305 in 2003.
The filter has an excellent construction and a good synthetic filtering media.

Filter media height 53mm
Filter media depth 12mm
Count pleats 53
External flow holes 8 until 2007, 6 after 2007
Internal holes 220
Bypass valve material All metal
Bypass diameter 20mm
Estimated bypass valve tension High
Gasket material O-Ring Silicone rubber

Honda #15400-P0H-305

Made in the U.S. by Filtec, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 in the US until 2003. It has been superseded by the Honda #15400-PCX-004.
The filter has good construction but the filter media is not great.

Honda #15400-PR3-014

Made in Japan by Toyo Roki, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 in Japan until 2003. It has been superseded by the Honda #15400-PCX-004.
The filter has good construction and a good filter media.

Honda #15400-PT7-005

Made in Canada by Fram, this is the original OEM filter specified for the S2000 in Canada until 2003. It has been superseded by the Honda #15400-PCX-004.
The filter has a moderate construction quality and moderate filter media. The filter is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM filters.
They were common in the U.S. as substitutes for the Honda #15400-P0H-305 when dealer stock ran low.

Filter media height 53mm
Filter media depth 12mm
Count pleats 47
External flow holes 6
Internal holes 104
Bypass valve material Treated paper
Bypass diameter 19mm
Estimated bypass valve tension Moderate
Gasket material O-Ring Silicone rubber

Honda #15400-PLM-A01

Made in the U.S. by Filtech, this was the universal Honda OEM filter specified for use in most Honda cars, but NOT the S2000.
It is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM S2000 filters. The filter has been superseded by the Honda #15400-PLM-A02.

Honda #15400-PLM-A02

Made in the U.S. by Fram, and probably equivalent to the Fram part #7317, this was the universal Honda OEM filter specified for use in most Honda cars until 2003, but NOT the S2000.
It is distinctly smaller than the U.S. and JDM S2000 filters and was widely recognized as being a generally poor-to-mediocre filter.

HAMP Synergy

Made in Japan, marketed by Honda under the name HAMP (Honda Aftermarket Parts). Appears to be essentially identical to the Honda #15400-PCX-004.
The filter has good construction and a good filter media.

Loosening oil filter while driving

All Honda filters which are approved for the S2000 will have two metal contact rings with the gasket being between those two rings.
This dual ring construction is designed specifically for the S2000 to prevent the oil filter from loosening while driving due to the high vibrations of the high revving F20C engine.
Nearly all aftermarket oil filters to not feature that dual ring construction and there for should not be used.
However, this dual ring construction makes it nearly impossible to hand tighten the oil filter to the specified torque (24Nm / 18 lb-ft or 7/8 of a full turn of the filter).
This is why a proper filter socket is highly recommended.

Oil filter stopper

For additional security against a loosening oil filter while driving you can buy a simple tool often referred to as the "oil filter stopper".
It is easy to mount and basically just a metal strap around the oil filter that prevent the oil filter from turning and falling off.
